Jerry D. Neal has successfully developed a wide range of personal interests in his life, which include the Co-Founding of a global semiconductor company and leader in communication technology, RF Micro Devices (RFMD). The company achieved a market capitalization of more than $16 billion during Mr. Neal’s tenure with the company. Mr. Neal’s primary focus for the company was strategic development, bringing new technologies and acquisitions into the company to ensure continued growth. RFMD merged with TriQuint Semiconductor in 2016, creating what is now known as Qorvo, Inc.
In 2015 Mr. Neal joined the Board of Directors of Akoustis, Inc., the position in which he served until March of 2016 when he accepted the position of Co-Chairman of the Board. Akoustis’ mission is to commercialize and manufacture its patented BulkONETM acoustic wave technology to critical frequency –selectivity requirements in today’s mobile smartphones – improving the efficiency and signal quality of Mobile Wireless devices and enabling the Internet of Things (IoT).
Mr. Neal is also the owner of Linbrook Heritage Estate, a privately held 500 acre working farm and forestry operation located on the Uwharrie River. The mission of the estate is to preserve central North Carolina’s rich farming heritage and industrial legacy. Linbrook Heritage Estate offers a unique agri-tourism destination, which includes Linbrook Hall and the Linbrook Museums. The estate is open to the public and facilitates fundraising events, corporate events, private functions and weddings.
Mr. Neal has continued his goal of preserving history, as evidenced by his decision in 2015 to take on the project of stabilizing and refurbishing an iconic 105-foot-tall smokestack in downtown Asheboro, North Carolina. This project paved the way for a new business venture and joint partnership with Dustie Gregson wherein historic property is refurbished and given new life and purpose. Mr. Neal is a founding partner of VSR LLC, whose letters stand for Vision to Sow and Rebuild. The company was formed with the intent of saving a 1920s-era hosiery mill, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mr. Neal has also served on the Board of Visitors at the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University, is involved in speaking to civic organizations and universities and entertains audiences through his portrayal of Guglielmo Marconi, the father of wireless communications. Mr. Neal has also authored two books; “Fire in the Belly” and “Built on a Rock”. Mr. Neal created and funds the Neal Fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to establish the dedicated, non-commercial, funding for research into critical projects and infectious diseases.
Mr. Neal holds an Electrical Engineering Degree and a Doctoral of Business Management. Jerry Neal was named a “Legend of Business” by Elon University, recognized as the Triad’s 2011 Most Influential People by The Business Journal and was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor of North Carolina. Mr. Neal is a native of Randolph County and currently resides in Trinity, North Carolina with his wife Linda S. Neal.
