The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN), our collaborating universities, faculty, students, corporate partners, equipment partners and the Gateway University Research Park are addressing some of the most critical issues, problems and opportunities facing our society. Being successful in these endeavors requires a constant influx of bright young minds. Exciting young minds about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is critical if the United States is to continue to be a world leader in science and technology.

The JSNN is dedicated to supporting schools and encouraging young students to focus on areas aligned with STEM. We take very seriously our responsibility to excite the young people of our region about the interesting and exciting career opportunities in STEM related fields involving Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. We recognize that for our region, state and nation to prosper we must be at the forefront of the development of these new technologies. We are committed to playing a lead role in the efforts to ignite passion for STEM in our young people.

The JSNN works with the Piedmont Triad schools on STEM initiatives and other outreach projects. Faculty and students of JSNN will be available to make presentations to various science and mathematics classes, to discuss the relevance of nanoscience and nanoengineering in our daily lives, to demystify nanoscience and mostJSNNNanoBus importantly to engage, excite and inspire the Triad’s future scientists and leaders!

Our NanoBus will visit 5 to 6 schools (middle and high) each semester, where our graduate students demonstrate some scientific experiments and explain them.

Our laboratories are open to school field trips and visits. JSNN is a beautiful 105,000 square feet building which includes 85000 square feet state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment to engage the imagination of our future scientists.

We’ll be glad to provide information to students, parents and teachers about nanoscience & nanoengineering. Everyone interested should contact us:

As a result of this work, JSNN is proud to announce it’s collaboration with the GATE CITY KIWANIS CLUB.

The Gate City Kiwanis is a group of active men and women involved in a broad spectrum of occupations in the area. Their members participate in a vast array of community service projects throughout the local area and North Carolina. Their club actively supports the Kiwanis World Wide Service Project to rid the world of Iodine Deficiency Disorders.
