From Graduate Life to a Corporate Career

The first thing you’ll likely do at any company is surprisingly go back to school. My aim is to give you an overview of what that adjustment is like and along the way discuss some of the history of Applied Materials and their industry footprint.

Dr. Komal Garde is a recent graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, earning a PhD in Nanoengineering under her advisor, Dr. Shyam Aravamudhan. She designed, fabricated and optimized nanostructures that are used for electrical stimulation of stem cells. Her Master’s thesis involved understanding the cytotoxicity and cellular uptake of engineered nanoparticles. Extensive research in these fields has helped her gain hands-on experience on various industry/practical techniques. Her expertise includes: SEM, EDX, TEM, Profilometer, DLS, Zetasizer, ICP-OES, Nanodrop; fabrication techniques like PVD, Focused Ion Beam (FIB) Milling; photolithography techniques, wet and dry etching; electrophysiology technique of patch clamp and working on cytotoxic assays. She has gained employment at Applied Materials in the Metal Deposition Process Group.
