Nanoengineering Application
Process
Our Nanoengineering admissions follows the NC A&T Graduate School admissions process. All application materials should be submitted through the NC A&T Graduate School.
Questions about the graduate program should be directed to the NE Graduate Program Director Dr. Emanuel Waddell.
Throughout or even before you begin the application process, it’s recommended you connect with a faculty member who shares your research interests. Read through the faculty profiles on our website to view ongoing projects and current research. Faculty who agree to accept you into their group can guide you throughout the application process.
Applications for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs will continue to be reviewed until June 30.
The application deadline for priority admission is February 28. For general admission, international applicants are also required to submit their applications by February 28. Our Nanoengineering admissions follow the NC A&T State University graduate school admissions process. Students will be admitted for the Fall semester only.

All applicants are expected to have completed an undergraduate degree in a STEM discipline,
and, as a minimum, completed calculus through differential equations.
Prospective graduate students can apply by through NCAT’s Graduate School admissions portal.
You should be ready to submit the following materials with the Graduate School application:
- $65 application fee.
- Transcripts from all institutions where coursework was completed.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation from professors, employers, or persons well acquainted with the prospective student’s academic and/or performance potential.
- Personal statement (limit 1000 words): This statement should address why you want to be accepted into the program, as well as detailed research interests and 1–3 potential faculty advisors.
- Current Curriculum Vitae.
- GRE score (Optional, recommended for international applicants).
- TOEFL/IELTS (for international applicants).

Nanoscience Application
Process
Our Nanoscience admissions follows the UNCG Graduate School admissions process. All application materials should be submitted through the UNCG Graduate School.
Questions about the graduate program should be directed to the NS Graduate Program Director Dr. Jianjun Wei.
Before beginning the application process, we strongly recommend that all prospective students review the Nanoscience department faculty’s research summaries and identify those faculty whose research aligns with your interests. Then we encourage you to contact that faculty. This process allows an applicant to ensure that a potential faculty mentor is taking new students and they can inform an applicant of potential projects. The establishment of a mentor/applicant relationship is also an essential part of the departmental new student review process and priority evaluations will be given to prospective students who have made the efforts to connect with a Nanoscience faculty. Furthermore, this faculty member will guide prospective students throughout the application process.
All applicants will be applying to the degree programs provided by the Department of Nanoscience at University of North Carolina Greensboro. Applications are completed through the portal found on the University of North Carolina Greensboro Graduate School website. For priority consideration – January 15th, final application dates – March 15th for PhD applications and June 1st for MS applications. - Personal statement (limit 1000 words): This statement should address why you want to be accepted into the program, as well as detailed research interests and one to three potential faculty advisors, however, it is expected that you have already established a potential working agreement with at least one faculty as described above.
- Current Curriculum Vitae.
- GRE score (for Ph.D. applicants only).
