About Professor Wei
Curriculum Vitae
Biography
Dr. Jianjun Wei is Professor of Nanoscience at the Joint school of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN), the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Dr. Wei joined JSNN/UNCG in 2013 as an Associate Professor of Nanosciece through 2020. Dr. Wei’s research at JSNN has been supported by grants from NSF, NIH, NCBC, DOD and NC state funding. Prior to joining JSNN, he had worked in CFD Research Corporation in Huntsville, AL, from 2006 to 2013, and led as a Principal Scientist (PI and co-PI) for a number of BAA, SBIR/STTR Phase I, II, and III US government contracts, primarily through NIH, NASA and DOD research grants. He obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry in 2004 at the University of Pittsburgh, followed with one year postdoctoral fellowship at the same university. Dr. Wei was a lecture and researcher at Shanghai University during 1995-2000 and graduated with degrees of M.S. in 1995 and BS in 1992 in Applied Chemistry from East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China.
Research
Dr. Wei’s research is based in convergence of nanomaterials, nanoscience & biology, with a particular emphasis on nanoscale reactions under electrical, optical and/or magnetic fields, and applications in bioanalysis, biosensors, biomedicine, electro/catalysis and energy storage/conversion. Both fundamentals of structure-correlated electron/energy transfer, electrocatalysis and nanoscale plasmonics with a motivating philosophy of exploiting synergies between functional systems and nanoscale materials or structures.
