Student Achievement Highlights From 2022

NC A&T STATE UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR’S DISTINGUISHED FELLOWSHIP

Jessica Norcott, a Nanoengineering Ph.D. candidate working with Dr. Kristen Dellinger, was awarded the NC A&T Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellowship for her Ph.D. studies.

ASSOCIATION OF RESEARCH DIRECTORS, INC. AWARD

Bahare Salehi won the first-place presentation award for outstanding achievement in Renewable Energy, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change.  Her advisor is Dr. Lijun Wang.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD WINNER

Wesley Allen Williams, a Nanoengineering PhD student working with Dr. Shyam Aravamudhan, was a recipient of the Diversity Award from the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) Nanotechnology Entrepreneurship Challenge (NTEC) for his project titled “MPI nanoparticles for the sensing and remediation of toxic incident anthropogenically-derived nanoplastics in the hydrosphere”.

JSNN STUDENTS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN “SCIENCE OUTSIDE THE LAB”   

5 JSNN students, Sachin Shendokar (Aravamudhan), Reggie Goodwin (Alston), Shira Snyder (LaJeunesse), Swapna Kalkar (Ignatova), and Rashmita Barua (Iyer) were selected among 80 students from 26 universities across the United States to participate in the Science Outside the Lab Program, sponsored by the Nanotechnology Collaborative Infrastructure Southwest (NCI-SW).

TWO JSNN STUDENTS RECEIVE UNCG SOE FELLOWSHIPS

Nanoscience students, Swapna Kalkar (Dr. Ignatova’s student) and Bukola Adesanmi (Dr. Wei and Dr. Obare’s student), received one-year fellowships from UNC Greensboro’s Institute for Partnerships in Education (IPiE). This fellowship will allow them to obtain teaching experience while working with students in Guilford Country Schools.

NASA NPWEE AWARD TO KYLE WILLIAMSON                                                                            

Kyle Williamson, a PhD student in the Department of Nanoscience working with Dr. Herr, was the recipient of a $10,000 fellowship from NASA for a proposal titled “Ionic Liquid Additive for Dust Mitigation”.

2022 NC A&T OUTSTANDING SENIOR GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT AWARD

This year’s 2022 NCA&T Outstanding Senior Graduate Teaching Assistant Award was won by Shobha Mantripragada, a PhD student in the lab of Dr. Lifeng Zhang.

2022 JSNN ALUMNI AWARD WINNER

Dr. Prithviraj Deshmukh, who received his PhD with Dr. Iyer in 2019 was the JSNN Alumni Achievement and was recognized at the annual NC A&T Fall convocation. Dr. Deshmukh was selected for this award due to his achievements in the semiconductor industry through his work at Intel Corporation.
